If kind words truly soothe the soul,
Then I shall venture to encourage thee.
Yet I know not the troubles you see,
I hope you’ll welcome my efforts on the whole.
Although I’ve known you briefly, I have few facets to extol,
And our natures do not come together oh so perfectly,
I’ve mused within my mind (and my heart and soul agree)
That being a welcome friend is truly a fate-given role.
I hope we can grow closer still
And find in thee a fitting ally,
Because from life’s warm sun or death’s cold chill
A true friend can often escape the eye.
So either by chance, or by God’s sovereign will,
I chance we shall be friends…
At least until the school year ends.
