Change- Maggie Melkus
Change. This word is one I have come to love. Change is my favorite word in the English language because it’s inevitable. Change occurs in everyone’s life, it’s universal. I treasure it because it is my connection to everyone else in the world. I have never in my life become more familiar with the word than at this point in my life. It’s as if nothing stays the same even for just a day. Everything in my world is changing. It took me a long time to accept this truth. As are most, I was afraid of what change signifies. When many think of change they associate it with bad feelings, bad events, and the end of something good. People feel blind to the world they thought they knew like the back of their hand. But the more I experience change, the more I realize its elegance and grace. I have noticed its extraordinary ability to mask its true outcome. At first all change seems bad, but there is always a reason for this change. The word change gives support to the claim that there is always a silver lining. I have seen its definition portrayed in so many ways. I have seen babies I used to care for turn into middle schoolers, I have seen the seasons change making the big change in my life come that much closer. College is change. However this amazing change shows our accomplishment and obstacles we have overcome in 12 years. The word change laughs at the quirky, gangly pre-teen years, it looks down and smiles at photos and memories of childhood summers and it welcomes the adult years ahead. Change can mean so many things; it is diverse and presents us with feelings we might not want to face but know we must. Change is who we are as individuals: unique in every way, constantly evolving.
