So Average - Matthew Lunsford

The thing that is so great about the U.S. is not that we are, for the most part, particularly extraordinary. It is that we have the potential to be extraordinary. That is why immigrants flock to our country. There is hope. But, it seems that very often, especially with younger Americans today, we are content to settle for average when we could be great. It is actually something that high schoolers strive for: to be like everyone else, to reach the status quo but no more. Don’t get me wrong, being average is ok, but not when the bar is set as low as it is today. Greatness comes when we strive for something so large that it makes the extraordinary average. That is when we reach our full potential.
