Sonnet to Zealots - Patrick Derrickson

Slash the womb out of fair Hyspatia!
Bemoan the death of knowledge and science
Fall of true virtue and academia
To those who attest to have a conscience.
A religion tenanted on amour-
Who ravage and pillage throughout Mother Earth-
Blind, ignorant, claiming noble valor,
Yielding years of intellectual death.
Cling to the coattails of wise Socrates,
Uphold the philosophies of Plato,
Denounce the follies of poor Orestes,
Animus sanus in corp’ro sano!
Expunge the teachings of the Christian!
Absorb the world with a pagan’s vision.

*Latin: Sound mind in a sound body
