A spark ignites in my heart
And suddenly I’m burning inside
A fire rages throughout my body
Taking over my mind
And going out of control
I see red
Flames lick at my lungs
And I can’t breathe
It spreads like poison
Through my veins
Reaching my fingertips
And contaminating all it touches
I am controlled by the fire
Its anger contorts me
Into a smoldering wreck
In order to distract myself
From the pain
Which caused the spark
My heart
The heart of the fire
Glazes over
In glass
Of the most fragile kind
So that now
All it can do
Is break
And shatter
With each and every
Broken beat
Until there is nothing left
No trace of what used to be
You
The fire destroying
All evidence of you
Located in my mind
Ingrained into my skin
Flowing with my blood
Stuck inside my lungs
Along with the air I breathe
Oxygen propelling the fire
Setting off painful explosions
Where you were most concentrated
Rocking my body
From the inside
Burns emerging
That will never fade
Ashes drift around
And at the center of it all
It is white hot
Enough heat to make you wonder
What’s going on with me
Because only you can put out this fire
With your sweet words
And soothing touch
The raging fire will stop
And among the dust and destruction
Life will emerge again.
