War (Beat Poetry) - Julia Burns

Ri-ri-ri-rivulets
Running down the wall,
Sh-sh-sh-shut up
I can’t hear the call-
I see god in their eyes
And saints in their fingertips.
Can’t commit single sin
-well, except for death,
Adultery, gluttony, and
Other things-
(oh) Mother Mary,
Can’t- can’t- can’t
You watch out for the
People like me?
I could see but now I’m blind
(by the rage of it),
Knew where I was going
But now I’m lost and left behind
(on your orders),
We race, race, race
To the finish line.
Close your eyes
And shoot the other side:
Our brothers,
Condemned to death
Because we can’t
Understand them.
